On September 24, Chinese President Xi Jinping delivered a video message at the UN Climate Change Summit.
In his speech, Xi Jinping announced a new round of China's Intended Nationally Determined Contributions:
By 2035, China's economy-wide net greenhouse gas emissions will be reduced by 7% -10% from the peak, striving to do better. The proportion of non-fossil energy consumption in total energy consumption will reach more than 30%, the total installed capacity of wind and solar power will reach more than six times that of 2020, striving to reach 3.6 billion kilowatts , the forest stock will reach more than 24 billion cubic meters, and new energy vehicles will become the mainstream of new sales vehicles. The national carbon emissions trading market covers major high-emission industries, and a climate-adaptive society has been basically established.
First, we must strengthen our confidence . Green and low-carbon transformation is the trend of the times. Although a few countries are moving against the current, the international community should grasp the right direction, adhere to the unshakable confidence, the unceasing action and the undiminished efforts, promote the formulation and implementation of national independent contributions, and inject more positive energy into global climate governance and cooperation.
Second, we should be responsible . Global green transformation should adhere to fairness and justice, fully respect the right to development of developing countries, and narrow rather than widen the gap between North and South through transformation. Countries should adhere to the principle of common but differentiated responsibilities, and developed countries should fulfill their obligations to take the lead in reducing emissions and provide more financial and technical support to developing countries.
Third, deepen cooperation. At present, there is a huge demand for global green development. Countries should strengthen international cooperation in green technology and industry, strive to fill the gap in green production capacity, ensure the free flow of high-quality green products around the world, and make green development truly benefit every part of the world.
Colleagues! The proportion of non-fossil energy consumption in total energy consumption will reach more than 30%, the total installed capacity of wind and solar power will reach more than six times in 2020, striving to reach 3.6 billion kilowatts, the forest stock will reach more than 24 billion cubic meters, new energy vehicles will become the mainstream of new sales vehicles, and the national carbon emission trading market will cover major high-emission industries. A climate-adaptive society has been basically established.
This is the goal set by China in accordance with the requirements of the Paris Agreement and reflecting its best efforts. To achieve this goal, China needs to make arduous efforts, as well as a favorable and open international environment. We are determined and confident to fulfill our commitments.
Colleagues! Tackling climate change is an urgent and long-term task.
