Saudi Power Purchasing announced an inquiry for the fifth round of solar projects with a total capacity of 3700MW (3.7 GW).
The Saudi Power Procurement Company (SPPC) has issued a Request for Qualification (RFQ) for the fifth round of solar projects under the National Renewable Energy Program (NREP), which is led and monitored by the Ministry of Energy.
The fifth round of projects has a total capacity of about 3700MW, and the projects are as follows:
1. The 2000MW Al Sadawi IPP project will be located in the eastern province of KSA.
2. The 1000 MW Al Masa 'a IPP will be located in the Hail Province of Saudi Arabia.
3. The 400 MW Al Henakiyah 2 IPP will be located in Medina Province, Saudi Arabia.
4. The 300MW Rabigh 2 IPP will be located in Makkah Province, Saudi Arabia.
The projects are part of the NREP, which aims to achieve an optimal energy mix to replace liquid fuels in the Kingdom's power sector, with renewable energy providing 50% of electricity by 2030.
It is reported that SPPC is responsible for the pre-development, bidding and subsequent energy purchase of the project. To date, the SPPC has awarded more than 12.6 G W of renewable energy capacity under the NREP.
