Mozambique has taken an important step on the road to industrialization. On February 2, a groundbreaking ceremony was held for the Chibabawa Cement Plant project, which is an important part of Mozambique's national industrialization plan. Basilio Muhat, Minister of Economy of Mozambique, presided over the ceremony, which was witnessed by Lorenzo Bulia, Governor of Sofala Province.
The project has received investment support of more than 280 million US dollars, with a designed annual capacity of about 1 million tons. The completion of the plant will effectively reduce Mozambique's dependence on imported cement and clinker, enhance domestic supply capacity, increase tax revenue and gradually reduce construction costs. The Chinese-funded project also includes a 28-megawatt captive power plant, which the government says will ensure stable operation of the plant and help the facility become one of the country's most important building materials companies. Chibabawa Cement is controlled by China Port Construction Group. The plant is expected to be completed in 2027. In the future, it is expected to supply products to regional markets such as the Southern African Development Community and the Common Market for Eastern and Southern Africa, further consolidating Mozambique's economic cooperation with China.
