Kenya's East African Portland Cement Company (EAPC) is on the verge of major changes. Its controlling shareholder, Kalahari Cement, a subsidiary of Tanzania's Amsons Group, has injected $200 million into it for comprehensive modernization and capacity expansion. The investment will significantly increase East Africa Portland Cement's annual production capacity from the current 1.3 million tons to nearly 4 million tons over the next three years, placing it among Africa's leading cement producers. Edha Nahdi, managing director
of Amsons Group, confirmed during a visit to the company's plant in Kajado that project planning was at an advanced stage and that the first phase of modernization was funded. The funds will mainly be used to build a new energy-efficient clinker calcination and grinding plant, upgrade manufacturing infrastructure and improve employee welfare. Kalahari Cement has commissioned a design from one of the world's leading general contractors for engineering, procurement and construction, marking a key step in the company's strategic transformation.
