Recently, Guangdong RongNa New Energy Technology Co., Ltd. (Hereinafter referred to as "RongNa New Energy"), A supplier of hard carbon anode materials for sodium-ion batteries, completed tens of millions of yuan of A-round financing, led by Funeng Industrial Capital Jingfu Fund, followed by cornerstone capital, and continued to invest in bridging capital.
This is the fourth round of financing completed by RongNa New Energy this year after yuanlai Capital invested in Angel Round, Fenghe Capital led in Pre-a Round, Bridge Capital and Qingliu Capital invested in Pre-a + Round. This round of financing will be used for the construction of 2000 tons of high temperature carbonization production line, the development of new products, and the establishment of R & D centers. Founded in August 2022
, RongNa New Energy is dedicated to providing high-performance and low-cost biomass hard carbon materials for the industry. At present, the company has built 10000 tons of precursor production line and 2000 tons of high temperature carbonization line, and has achieved stable batch shipment.
Sodium-ion batteries have the advantages of good low temperature, high efficiency and safety, and the raw materials are autonomous and controllable, with low cost and small resistance to mass production. They have good market prospects in two-wheeled electric vehicles, three-wheeled electric vehicles, low-speed vehicles, energy storage and new energy vehicles.
"Sodium electricity has been introduced to the market, has a certain sales volume, has gone through the stage from 0 to 1, the principle model has gone through.". With the improvement of cost and industrialization bottlenecks, the sodium electricity market will gradually expand. Wang Xian, co-founder of Rong Na New Energy, told 36 Carbon. According to
the public data, the BOM cost of sodium-ion battery in the pilot stage is about 0.82 yuan/Wh, 0.76-0.82 yuan/Wh in the pilot stage, 0.49 yuan/Wh in the small batch production stage, and the final theoretical cost is about 0.29 yuan/Wh.
Agency EV Tank predicts that global sodium power shipments will be close to 3GWh in 2023 and sodium-ion battery shipments will reach 347.0 GWh in 2030. Among the mainstream anode materials for sodium-ion batteries in the
current market, hard carbon materials are the best choice for anode materials because of their abundant resources, low cost, high capacity, good stability, non-toxicity and high safety. In a variety of hard carbon preparation technology routes, biomass hard carbon has something in common with the traditional graphite mass production process, and its mass production technology and equipment are relatively mature, which is the first technology route to realize industrialization at present.
Sodium-tolerant new energy also chooses the route of biomass hard carbon anode. Wang Xian said that as early as 10 years ago, the sodium storage team had begun to conduct in-depth research on the sodium storage mechanism of hard carbon anode, especially in the screening of biomass hard carbon precursors, and had done extensive exploration work, which could better guarantee the stability of raw material sources and the consistency of product quality.
At present, sodium new energy has launched a number of products, such as high capacity, high compaction, low cost, different particle size and magnification of the series of hard carbon materials.
Taking the sodium RN-C1 product as an example, Jingfu Fund said that under the all-electric test, the cycle retention rate of gram capacity and the first target KELERI TYPE-2 is more than 95%, which is in the leading level in the industry.
Wang Xian told 36 Carbon that by cooperating with several sodium electric head customers to improve products, sodium has made remarkable progress in improving circulation, improving batch consistency, solving gas production and improving compaction density, and has formed a certain number of orders.
At the same time, through the layout and process optimization of the whole industrial chain from raw materials, precursors to finished products, the production cost of hard carbon anode is continuously reduced, which is expected to open up a larger market space. In terms of the
team, Rong Na New Energy is led by Dr. Wang Xian and Professor Yang Chenghao of South China University of Technology. The founding team has been deeply engaged in the research of sodium electricity and carbon materials for more than ten years, and has abundant scientific research resources and industrial resources.
Among them, Dr. Wang Xian has rich industrialization experience and industrial resources in the field of graphite anode materials. Professor Yang Chenghao has been devoting himself to the research of sodium-ion batteries, and has 15 years of experience in lithium/sodium-ion batteries, preparation of positive and negative materials, and process research and development.
2023 is the first year of industrialization of sodium-ion batteries. Due to the small output, the process is still immature and the cost is still high. However, with the expansion of production capacity, process optimization and yield improvement, its cost will be rapidly reduced, and the market is expected to further open up. Wang Xian said that the new energy of sodium capacity will continue to cultivate research and development, and contribute to accelerating the industrialization process of sodium power in China.
