Middle East has had a direct impact on Bangladesh's construction industry. After the price of steel bars soared by about 10000 Taka per ton, cement, the core building material, also ushered in a wave of rising prices. Cement manufacturers have raised the price of each bag of cement by 10 to 20 Taka, indicating that construction costs are facing a double squeeze in the short term.
Geopolitical conflicts have pushed up the cost
of raw materials and transportation. Cement producers say the war in the Middle East has led to a rise in the price of raw materials for cement production, while the surge in shipping costs has led to a sharp rise in import costs. In order to absorb the extra expenditure, enterprises have to adjust the price of products. Mohidul Mullah, head of RM Enterprise, a steel and cement distributor in the Khalishahar region of Chattogram, confirmed to the media that the price of each bag of cement rose between 10 and 20 Taka, and the prices of the two main building materials rose synchronously in the same week.
According to the seller, there are differences in the price of different brands of cement. After the price increase, the price of each 50 kg bag of cement is in the range of 480 to 525 Taka, which is equivalent to an increase of about 200 to 400 Taka per ton. Previously, the price of steel bars has risen significantly, with the price of mainstream brand steel bars rising by about 10000 Taka per ton, and the current price is between 90000 and 94500 Taka.
