The Spanish cement consumption market showed a slight contraction at the beginning of this year. According to the data released by the Spanish Cement Manufacturers Association, the national cement consumption in February 2026 recorded 1.2784 million tons, a slight decrease of 0.1% compared with the same period last year. If the observation window is expanded to the first two months of this year, the cumulative demand will reach 2.3773 million tons, a year-on-year decline of 0.2%, indicating a slight slowdown in construction activity at the beginning of the year.
The decline in demand was mainly affected by extreme weather conditions. The Spanish Association of Cement Manufacturers clearly pointed out that the rare heavy rainfall was the key factor dragging down cement consumption. January and February this year constituted the two wettest months in the past 47 years, with rainfall in February reaching 2.5 times the historical average for the month. According to the monitoring data of the Spanish National Meteorological Bureau, such abnormal weather conditions have seriously interfered with the progress of outdoor construction, resulting in a significant suppression of cement demand.
The export market is even more depressed. In February 2026, the export volume of Spanish cement was 265,400 tons, with a sharp decline of 7.4% compared with the same period last year; if the data from January to February are integrated, the cumulative export volume is 543,000 tons, with a year-on-year decline of 9.8%. Both the weak contraction of domestic consumption and the significant decline in exports reflect that the Spanish cement industry is facing double pressures on the demand side, and the easing of weather factors in the short term will be an important prerequisite for the market to recover.
