The Mozambican government has reached a major investment deal with China worth US $333 million to build two cement factories, a wharf and improve hospital services in the northern Mozambican provinces of Nampula and Cabo Delgado. The partnership results from four agreements signed at an investment conference held in October in Xi'an, Shaanxi province, and was announced by the Mozambican government in a statement to Lusa news agency on Thursday.
The investment conference played a key role in promoting bilateral economic relations between Mozambique and China. Bas Basílio Muhate, Minister of Economy of Mozambique, led a delegation of about 50 people to Xi'an, China, to participate in the consultation, which eventually led to the signing of the series of agreements. The statement stressed that the cooperation is aimed at strengthening economic ties between the two countries in various fields, especially promoting infrastructure construction and economic and social development in northern Mozambique.
According to the agreement, the huge amount of funds will be dedicated to the construction of two cement production units, the construction of a wharf bridge and the upgrading of the local hospital service system. After landing, these projects will significantly improve the industrial production capacity and infrastructure level of the two provinces, while providing better medical services for residents. However, the official has not yet disclosed the specific timetable for when the project will start.
In addition to the above core projects, the meeting further expanded the framework of economic cooperation between Mozambique and Shaanxi Province in a wider range of areas. The two sides agreed to deepen cooperation in energy development, agricultural products processing, manufacturing, tourism, hydrocarbon exploration and development, transportation and logistics, digital transformation and human resources skills training, so as to create more opportunities for Chinese enterprises to invest in Mozambique in the future.
The Mozambican government said that the fruitful results of the investment conference will not only directly promote the economic development of Nampula and Cabo Delgado provinces, but also bring long-term benefits to the local people by strengthening infrastructure construction and improving basic public services. As Chinese enterprises accelerate the distribution of the Mozambican market, this cooperation marks a new step in the economic partnership between the two countries.
