According to Yatirimlar News, Turkish cement producer Çimsa, through its subsidiary Cimsa Americas Cement Manufacturing and Sales Corporation, has put into production its new grey cement grinding plant in Houston, United States. With an annual capacity of 600,000 tons and a total investment of US $82 million, the plant marks Çimsa as the only Turkish cement producer in the US market with a grey cement production facility.
Previously, Çimsa operated a white cement grinding plant in the United States with an annual capacity of 300,000 tons. The commissioning of the new plant has further consolidated its position in the US market and added new impetus to its business expansion. "Our goal is to establish Çimsa as a global building materials company with geographically diversified production and a differentiated product portfolio," said Umut Zenar, CEO of the company. In this process, we continue to strengthen our existing business and continue to promote international acquisitions and new investment projects. In 2021, we completed the acquisition of the Bunol plant in Valencia, Spain, becoming the second largest white cement producer in the world. In 2024, we completed our investment in Mannok, further strengthening our market position in Ireland and the UK and accelerating our transformation with the addition of a new product portfolio. Today, we are pleased to launch this new investment in the United States. For a long time, we have been entering the American market through exports. This investment in the United States is a turning point. We are no longer just a brand exporting products to the United States, but a participant with on-site production capacity. In this way, we have gained the advantage of logistics and can provide customers with faster and more efficient services. We also plan to further strengthen our market position by increasing sales through local production capacity in the United States. "It will also help improve our foreign currency-based revenue share."
