local time, a transport ship carrying 3000 cars in the Pacific Ocean caught fire. The ship, about 300 miles (483 kilometers) off the coast of Alaska, was being used by the U.S. Coast Guard to extinguish the fire. The ship, managed by Zodiac Maritime, was carrying about 3000 vehicles, including 800 electric vehicle. It was originally scheduled to arrive at the port of Lassaro Cardenas, Mexico, on June 15.
As of the early morning of June 5, the fire on the ship had not been extinguished. All 22 crew members had no casualties and had abandoned the ship and been safely transferred.
In general, however, shipboard fires associated with electric vehicle are difficult to extinguish and carry a risk of re-ignition, often lasting for several days.
