Brunei's Borneo Bulletin reported on August 11 that Brunei held a foundation-laying ceremony for a 30 MW solar photovoltaic power plant , marking a new stage in the country's clean energy development. Vice Minister of Finance and Economics Kailudin presided over the ceremony, and senior government officials, industry representatives and project partners attended the event. Located in the village of Kampong Belimbing,
the power station is the largest solar project in Brunei. The project is being developed by Seri Suria Power, a joint venture between Serikandi Oilfield Services, Khazanah Satu, a government-affiliated company, and Atlantic Blue Malaysia. The work was carried out by Serikandi Solarvest.
The project is expected to be put into operation by the end of 2026, generating more than 64 million kilowatt-hours of electricity annually, meeting the electricity demand of 15,500 households and reducing 41,000 tons of carbon dioxide emissions annually. As a key project for Brunei to achieve the target of 30% renewable energy in 2035, the power station will not only provide clean electricity, but also create employment opportunities, and serve as a training base for solar energy technology to help the country's energy transformation.
