Egypt plans to issue two new licenses for cement plants by the end of the year, aiming to curb the rise in domestic cement prices and strengthen the industry's ability to meet growing regional demand. According to the Saudi Oriental Business website, the plan coincides with the expected surge in construction projects in Egypt and other regional countries. An unnamed official was
quoted as saying that the local cement company had agreed to issue the two new permits during a meeting with Industry Minister Carmel El Wazir a few days ago. "It is expected that these two licenses will be issued before the end of the year, and each license will include a production line." The official said. The move comes against the backdrop of a sharp rise in cement prices in the local market,
according to the report. The price of cement shipped from the plant this week surged 47% to 4,057 Egyptian pounds per ton compared with the same period last year. The two new cement plants will add 1.5 million to 2 million tons to Egypt's cement production annually, an official said. He also added that Egypt's cement demand is expected to increase from 47 million tons in 2024 to 52 million tons by the end of 2025.
