the Herald reported. Industry and Trade Minister Mangaliso Ndlovu visited the Chegutu cement plant under construction and expressed optimism about Zimbabwe's cement production capacity.
Mr Ndolo said: This project will solve the severe shortage of cement that we are facing at the moment, when we have to import cement from neighbouring countries. We are pleased that by early 2026, the plant will start producing cement, and it is likely that imports will no longer be needed. Yan Bo, administrative manager of
the cement plant owned by China's Shuntai Investments (Pvt) Ltd, confirmed that the company had invested US $70 million in the project. The plant is expected to produce 800,000 tons of cement annually, and 300 local employees have been employed in the project.
In addition, another Chinese investor, Yaobo International's subsidiary Wizz International, which belongs to West Cement Co., Ltd., is building a $1 billion cement plant in Magonje, Hulungwe. Construction is due to be completed this month and the plant already employs 60 local staff.
