On October 30, the National Energy Administration held a press conference to release the energy situation and renewable energy development in the third quarter of 2023. At the press conference, Wang Dapeng, deputy director of the Department of New and Renewable Energy, introduced the development of renewable energy in the first three quarters of 2023. In the first three quarters of
2023, the installed capacity of renewable energy increased by 172 million kilowatts , an increase of 93% over the same period last year, accounting for 76% of the newly installed capacity. Among them, hydropower installed capacity increased by 7.88 million kilowatts, wind power installed capacity increased by 33.48 million kilowatts, photovoltaic power installed capacity increased by 128.94 million kilowatts , and biomass power installed capacity increased by 2.07 million kilowatts. By the end of September 2023, the installed capacity of renewable energy in China was about 1.384 billion kilowatts, an increase of 20% over the previous year, accounting for 49.6% of the total installed capacity in China, which exceeded the installed capacity of thermal power, including 419 million kilowatts of hydropower, 400 million kilowatts of wind power and 521 million kilowatts of photovoltaic power. The installed capacity of biomass power generation is 43 million kilowatts.
Renewable energy generation has steadily increased. In the first three quarters of 2023, the national renewable energy power generation reached 2.07 trillion kWh, accounting for about 31.3% of the total power generation; of which, the wind power and photovoltaic power generation reached 1.07 trillion kWh, an increase of 22.3% over the same period, exceeding the electricity consumption of urban and rural residents in the same period.
