According to Reuters, the U.S. government is planning to set a minimum price for polysilicon and impose tariffs on polysilicon and related products . A decision is expected later in August .
Reported that the above measures in the United States are to protect the U.S. polysilicon plants owned by Hemlock Semiconductor and Wacker Chemie.
According to unnamed sources in the report, the government is expected to adopt a hybrid mechanism that combines minimum import prices with tariffs on polysilicon and its downstream products. The plan will allow importers who invest in the production of silicon wafers and cells in the United States to offset the costs associated with trade protection measures. The US government has not made an official response to
the above news.
Earlier, on July 1, the U.S. Ministry of Commerce launched an investigation into the impact of imports of polysilicon and its derivatives on the country's national security. This investigation was initiated pursuant to Section 232 of the Trade Expansion Act of 1962, as amended ( "Section 232").
Up to now, the latest progress of the above investigation has not yet been achieved.
