On April 1, the core benchmarking project of the second batch of "Shagehuang" large-scale wind power photovoltaic base, which was built by China Gezhouba Third Company, was the largest "photothermal storage" integration project in the world. The photovoltaic area of China Nengjian Hami "solar (thermal) storage" 1500 MW base project was officially started.

The project is located in the Chahaquan area, 60 kilometers northeast of Santanghu Town, Balikun County, Hami City, Xinjiang, with a total area of about 50,000 mu. The project adopts the integrated collaborative mode of "photovoltaic + photothermal + thermal storage", constructs 1350MW photovoltaic and 150MW photothermal, and constructs a heat absorption tower, two 220 kV booster stations and outgoing lines.
China Gezhouba No.3 Energy Engineering Co., Ltd. undertook the construction of the 4th bid section of the photovoltaic area of the project. The main construction content is the construction and installation works of the 406.97 MWp photovoltaic array area, covering the whole process of site clearance, site leveling, construction contracting, project grid connection, acceptance and excellence creation.

As the core carrier of photothermal power generation technology innovation in China, the project focuses on the extreme environmental pain points in the Gobi and achieves a number of key breakthroughs. The photothermal part of the project is equipped with an 8-hour high-temperature molten salt heat storage system, which operates through the combination of photothermal and photovoltaic, with an intelligent dispatching system and a "two-way energy storage " mechanism. It can realize the all-weather power supply mode of "photovoltaic power generation in the daytime and photothermal supplement at night", realize the deep coupling of heat storage photothermal and photovoltaic, make two different solar power stations shine in the frontier Gobi Desert at the same time, convert the changing solar energy into stable output of "100% green power", and create a model project of adjustable grid-friendly power supply.
It is reported that China can build Hami "light (heat) storage" 1500 MW base project, with a total investment of about 6.5 billion yuan, formally entered the construction site in May 2024, which is the core project of the second batch of national "Shagehuang" large-scale wind power photovoltaic base construction. After the completion of the
project, the annual power generation is estimated to be about 3 billion kilowatt-hours, including about 2.8 billion kilowatt-hours of photovoltaic power generation and about 200 million kilowatt-hours of photothermal power generation. It can save 868000 tons of standard coal and reduce carbon dioxide emissions by 2.256 million tons annually, with remarkable ecological benefits.
