On February 25, the Zimbabwean government announced an immediate suspension of all exports of raw materials and lithium concentrates, including goods in transit. In the future, only enterprises with valid mining rights and approved concentrators will be qualified for export, and agents and third-party traders will be prohibited from exporting.
In fact, as early as June 2025, Zimbabwe announced that it would ban export of lithium concentrates from January 2027, allowing only the export of lithium sulfate with higher added value. According to the latest report of
the US Geological Survey, Zimbabwe's lithium production in 2025 was 28000 tons, second only to Argentina, China and Chile. Zimbabwe's lithium mining capacity accounts for 65% -70% of Africa's total production capacity. It is one of the core supply sources in China. As soon as
the ban comes out, the supply and demand prices in the global lithium market may fluctuate sharply again!
