In the first six months of 2014, profits at Lafarge Zambia increased by 66%, mainly due to the introduction of cost control strategies and the growth of foreign exchange earnings, said Emmanuel Gax, CEO of Lafarge Zambia.
The company's plan to improve customer service through new and innovative products, building an excellent customer service team and developing state-of-the-art equipment has paid off so far, Gax said.
Despite the challenging Zambian export market in the first half of the year, the company's Ndola City and Chilanga plants achieved encouraging results through improvements in operating methods and industrial performance.
In the first half of 2014, the cement output of Zambia Branch increased by 13% to 600000 tons. Despite intense competitive challenges in both the domestic and export markets, rising costs and numerous changes in the regulatory environment, Lafarge Zambia expects to continue its efforts on customer and cost control to enable the company to grow profitably and meet the needs of both domestic and export customers, with a future focus on infrastructure and mining projects set in the Democratic Republic of Congo.
Gakes said that the Zambian branch will continue to expand its production capacity in Ndola and Chilanga, while the company will continue to maintain its position as the preferred supplier in the Zambian construction industry. Gax added that cement demand will remain strong for the rest of 2014, and that innovative products and quality services will meet the growing demand of the construction industry.
