Indian Cement Giant Takes Over Sri Lanka Cement Plant

< P > < FONT face = Verdana > Birla India Limited is one of the world's largest cement producers. In the near future, it will take over the Kankasanturai Cement Plant in Sri Lanka. Sri Lanka's Minister of Construction and Works said he would negotiate the decision with Birla's management to build a cement production line at Kankasanturai.

< P > < FONT face = Verdana > A delegation from Birla India will travel to Sri Lanka to meet with the President of Sri Lanka. Sri Lanka will develop a piece of land to build a factory. The terms and conditions for the construction of the Plant shall be laid down by the Board of Investment of Sri Lanka. By then, Kankasanturai will be the 11th largest cement producer in the world.

< P > < FONT face = Verdana > Kankasanturai Cement Factory is the first cement factory in Sri Lanka. Work was stopped in the 1980s. If Kankasanturai is reopened, it will produce 40% of the cement needed in Sri Lanka.

< P > < FONT face = Verdana > Birla Limited is the largest company in the M. P. Birla Group. Its cement industry alone has seven branches with an output of 580,000 tons, including ordinary Portland cement, 43 and 53 series, fly ash cement, slag cement and low-alkali cement. < BR >
