It is understood that Reden's component plant was built in 2009 and is located in Roquefort, near Agen, France. In 2023, Reden announced an investment of approximately €4 million to upgrade the plant with a new 200 MW module production line, which is scheduled to be commissioned by the end of 2023.
However, according to Reden's official website, the plant was actually announced to be officially put into operation in November 2024. According to
media reports, Reden initially built the factory in order to realize the independent control of the whole photovoltaic industry chain. However, under the attack of domestic and foreign environment, the idea finally failed.
Relevant sources told the media that the financial situation of the factory has long been unsustainable. In this regard, the person explained that, on the one hand, due to the impact of the price of photovoltaic products in China, on the other hand, although the European Union has introduced a number of bills to support local manufacturing in recent years, these measures are still unable to effectively support the development of photovoltaic manufacturing in Europe, especially in France, and the Solar Energy Convention launched by France is not mandatory.
According to Reden in an interview with the media, the price difference between French-made photovoltaic modules and Chinese photovoltaic modules has reached 200%. " Compared with Chinese enterprises, our competitiveness gap has widened to an unbearable extent .". From an economic point of view, closing the factory has become the only reasonable option.
Faced with the lack of competitiveness and structural losses, Reden decided to close the plant and shift its business focus to the development of solar and energy storage projects.
It is reported that Reden has tried to sell the factory, but ultimately failed.
