On July 19, China's hydropower project on the lower reaches of the Yarlung Zangbo River, another century project to transform the top of the world, was officially started in the Xizang of Nyingchi.
This is a new record, which can be called the largest water conservancy project in human history, hanging all the previous global hydropower projects.
The total investment is as high as 1.2 trillion yuan, six times that of the Three Gorges! Five super cascade hydropower stations are planned to be built, with installed capacity expected to reach 60 to 70 million kilowatts and annual power generation exceeding 300 billion kilowatt-hours, which is equivalent to "rebuilding three Three Gorges".
The project site is over 3,300 meters above sea level, and the construction environment is known as "hell level" difficulty. The high-difficulty technology of "bend straightening + tunnel diversion" is used, with a maximum drop of 2,300 meters. It is the first time in the world to use 500 MW impulse turbine units, which refreshes the new height of plateau hydropower technology. What changes will
such an epic project bring to China's energy industry? We'll see.
