Recently, under the witness of Serbian President Vucic, the right tunnel of the Garland Tunnel of the Novi Sad-Ruma Expressway Control Project in Serbia, which was constructed by China Road and Bridge, was successfully completed. Li Ming, Chinese Ambassador to Serbia, and Alexandra Sofronijevic, Minister of Construction, Transport and Infrastructure of Serbia, jointly attended the opening ceremony.


At the construction site of the Garland Tunnel, Vuccic witnessed the important moment of the last 1.3 kilometers of the right tunnel. He said that the Garland Tunnel is the longest tunnel currently under construction in Serbia and an important passageway connecting Vojvodina and West Serbia. Its smooth completion will reduce the traffic flow in the area of Vrushka Mountain National Park, effectively improve regional accessibility and ease the traffic pressure between Novi Sad and Ruma. Vucic praised the tunnel as the pride of Serbia and thanked China Road and Bridge for its support and efforts. Serbia will continue to deepen cooperation with its Chinese partners, promote more major projects benefiting the people, and constantly consolidate the iron friendship between the two countries.
Li Ming said at the ceremony that the Novi Sad-Ruma Expressway project is a landmark project for China and Cyprus to jointly build a "the Belt and Road" with high quality, and the smooth completion of the right tunnel of the Garland Tunnel fully demonstrates China's speed, quality and responsibility, and is a historic moment for China-Cyprus infrastructure cooperation. China is willing to work with the Serbian side to push forward the cooperation between the two countries and write a new chapter of the China-Serbia community of destiny in the new era. After the

opening ceremony, the municipal government of Irig, Srem district, Vojvodina province, where the tunnel is located, held a series of celebrations with the theme of "Tunnel connects us, Frushka Gora unites us".
The Garland Tunnel is 3.5 kilometers long, with a two-way four-lane separated design and a design speed of 80 kilometers per hour. The right tunnel, with a total length of 3552 meters and a maximum buried depth of 226.07 meters, is three months ahead of the planned construction period, marking the verification of the tunnel structure safety and construction technology system, and demonstrating the professional level of Chinese enterprises. The "pilot passage" of ventilation, drainage and transportation formed by the right tunnel will provide a technical model for the construction of the left tunnel and help promote the overall construction of the project. After
the tunnel is opened to traffic, the journey through the forest reserve of Mount Frushka National Park will be reduced from 30 minutes to 5 minutes, which will provide strong support for the industrial layout along the line, such as industry, warehousing and logistics, cultural and tourism economy, and further consolidate the basis of cooperation between China and Cyprus in the fields of transportation, energy and infrastructure. It has become another successful example of the in-depth implementation of the "the Belt and Road" in the European region.
