Recently, SMA Solar, a German photovoltaic and energy storage inverter manufacturer, announced that it would lay off 300 people in Germany and 50 overseas by the end of 2026 due to weak market and competitive pressure. The layoff was slightly more than 9%. The
layoff expands the restructuring and transformation plan launched in September 2024, reducing the annual expenditure by more than 100 million euros on the basis of the original planned annual savings of 150-200 million euros. The company identified three main avenues for savings in the residential and commercial sectors: "optimizing" R & D spending; expanding the use of its Indian base; and exiting low-margin markets. It also determined the strategy of outsourcing production, expanding Polish production capacity, promoting business internationalization and efficient service.
