Recently, the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology announced the list of energy efficiency "leader" enterprises in key industries. Huaxin Cement (Daoxian) Co., Ltd. and Huaxin Cement (Huangshi) Co., Ltd. were selected with 78.18 kgce/t and 79.29 kgce/t (comprehensive energy consumption per unit product of clinker) respectively, which were far lower than those of other cement enterprises.
The author compares the list of energy efficiency "leader" enterprises in previous years and finds that the comprehensive energy consumption per unit product of Huaxin Cement is much higher than that of other enterprises for four consecutive years, and the energy consumption value has been reduced year after year. The comprehensive energy consumption per unit clinker product of Huaxin Cement (Huangshi) Co., Ltd.
in 2022 is 86.76 kgce/t; the comparable comprehensive energy consumption per unit clinker product of Huaxin Cement (Henan Xinyang) Co., Ltd. in 2021 is 87.95 kgce/t; The comprehensive energy consumption of comparable clinker of Huaxin Cement (Henan Xinyang) Co., Ltd. in 2020 is 91.75 kgce/t. A person
in the industry said that the main reason for the low comprehensive energy consumption per unit product of Huaxin cement clinker is the use of alternative fuels, which also shows that alternative fuels can indeed save energy and reduce consumption by a large margin. The author also found from the ESG report issued by Huaxin Cement that in recent years, the proportion of alternative fuels used by the enterprise has increased year by year. In 2023, the proportion of alternative fuels used by domestic kiln lines in primary energy consumption has reached 22.8%, and the group merger (including overseas) has reached 20%.
In recent years, in addition to Huaxin Cement, the fuel substitution rate of Jinyu Jidong Cement has reached 8.08%, and that of Conch Cement has reached 8%. Many cement enterprises, such as Tianshan Material, Taiwan Cement and Tapai Group, are accelerating the promotion of non-fossil energy alternative fuels.
Using alternative fuels to reduce carbon emissions and reduce cost pressures seems to be a good thing to kill two birds with one stone. However, in fact, there are still many problems in alternative fuels in China's cement industry. Zhang Zhenkun, CEO of
Asia Cement (China) Holding Company, has pointed out that China's alternative fuel industry chain is incomplete and the development time is short, and there are still many problems in the use of alternative fuels in the cement industry: for example, the calorific value of various alternative fuels fluctuates too much; toxic components after high temperature treatment enter the production system for circulation, which will affect the burning of clinker and reduce the output. Zhang Zhenkun said that the ecological chain of alternative fuels in Europe is complete, relevant policies are perfect, and waste classification is in place. The utilization rate of alternative fuels in Germany can reach 60%, which can really reduce costs. China still has a long way to go in alternative fuels. Zhou Jinbo, deputy to
the National People's Congress, also said that the technology of alternative fuels for cement kilns in developed countries in Western Europe is mature, with an average substitution rate of 39%, including 63% in Germany and 85% in the Netherlands. In contrast, in China, cement kilns are mainly used for co-disposal of wastes, and alternative fuels are still in their infancy, with an average fuel substitution rate of only about 5%. What is
the current status of alternative fuel use in the cement industry? What limits the development of alternative fuels in China's cement industry? What is the impact of alternative fuels on cement production?
China Cement Network will hold the "11th China Cement Energy Conservation and Environmental Protection Technology Exchange Conference-Equipment Renewal Forum" in Nanjing, Jiangsu Province on June 13-14. At the meeting, we will introduce the current situation of the use of alternative fuels in the cement industry and focus on the analysis of the impact on cement production. At the same time, we will visit Jurong TCC after the meeting to learn about the use of alternative fuels in Jurong TCC. Please look forward to it!
