As early as November 2022, the world's first steel slag capture cement kiln flue gas CO2 production line for carbon sequestration auxiliary cementitious materials and low-carbon cement was completed and put into operation.

The project uses the dry method of steel slag to capture and utilize CO2 in situ, which can effectively solve the problem of poor stability of steel slag and improve its activity while reducing the emission of CO2 from cement kiln flue gas. The auxiliary cementitious material with high activity and carbon fixation is prepared, which breaks through the bottleneck problem that restricts the large-scale safety and high value-added application of steel slag in cement, concrete, aggregate and other building materials for a long time. It can be said that the operation of the project provides an important choice for promoting the low-carbon development of the cement industry and realizing the unity of economic and environmental benefits. data show that the project has an annual production capacity of 300000 tons of steel slag for co-production of carbon sequestration auxiliary cementitious materials, which can directly capture and utilize 16000 tons of CO2 in cement kiln flue gas annually, and reduce carbon by about 250000 tons in society.

In addition, the technology of using steel slag to capture CO2 from flue gas has been applied in many projects. In April

2023, the world's first use of steel slag to capture CO2 from lime kiln flue gas was completed and put into operation. Yongfeng Project has the production capacity of treating 300,000 tons of steel slag per year and preparing auxiliary cementitious materials for carbon sequestration, which can directly capture and utilize 16,000 tons of CO2 in lime kiln flue gas per year and produce 600,000 tons of high-efficiency composite mineral admixture per year. this year, the formal signing of Baowu E Steel Carbon Capture and Industrial Solid Waste Resource Utilization Project, a landmark event of cooperation between Shijing Science and Technology and Baowu Group, not only indicates that the two sides have taken a solid step in exploring the deep cooperation in the field of industrial carbon reduction and resource recycling, but also marks that China's iron and steel industry is in the field of industrial carbon reduction and resource recycling. It is another milestone in the transformation of efficient emission reduction and sustainable development mode. According to the

data, the project is located in the plant area of Echeng Iron and Steel Co., Ltd. of Baowu Group, Ezhou City, Hubei Province. It is planned to invest 144 million yuan to build a 300000 tons steel slag pre-grinding system, a 300000 tons steel slag carbon capture system and a high-efficiency composite mineral admixture production system with an annual output of 1 million tons. After the project is put into production, the annual output of high-efficiency composite mineral admixture will be 1 million tons, which can directly capture and utilize 20,000 tons of carbon dioxide. By indirectly reducing the amount of cement clinker in cement and cement in concrete, the comprehensive carbon reduction will reach 250,000 tons.

The project uses non-carbon raw materials such as steel slag to capture flue gas CO2 in situ at low cost. After carbon capture, steel slag becomes a carbon fixation auxiliary cementitious material, which can be used in the production of low-carbon cement. At the same time, it can cooperate with other materials such as mineral powder and fly ash to prepare high-efficiency composite mineral admixtures. The material can be applied to cement, concrete and other related industries.

It can be said that the project not only sets an industry model, but also actively responds to Ezhou's "double carbon" policy objectives by promoting the coordinated development of low-carbon steel and green building materials industry, and effectively promotes the improvement of social well-being; At the same time, in view of the steel slag treatment problems faced by Egang, the project innovatively enhanced its solid waste disposal efficiency, realized the large-scale collection, resource conversion and high value-added utilization of steel slag waste, opened up a new economic growth point for Egang, and achieved both economic and environmental benefits.
