Low-carbon development is the only way for cement industry to achieve sustainable development.
On October 24, the "2024 China Cement Double Carbon Conference and the 12th Energy Conservation and Environmental Protection Technology Exchange Conference" was held in Wuhu, Anhui Province. Ye Jiayuan, Vice President of Cement New Materials Institute of China Building Materials Research Institute, made a keynote report on "Technological Path and Prospect of Low Carbon Development in Cement Industry".
Ye Jiayuan introduced the low-carbon development technology path of cement industry from three perspectives: international technology status and development path, China's technology status and development path, and low-carbon development planning of large groups.
Ye Jiayuan introduced that the European Cement Association proposed the road of carbon neutralization in the cement industry in 2050-the carbon reduction technology route of the whole industry chain ( clinker , cement, concrete, construction, re-carbonization); IEA (International Energy Agency) proposes 2050 low-carbon road map for cement industry, which is the technical route of carbon reduction based on cement process; GCCA (Global Cement and Concrete Association) proposes the road of zero carbon, which includes energy transformation, process emission reduction, low-carbon application, long-term service, etc.
In view of the current situation and development path of China's technology, according to the model deduction, in order to achieve carbon neutrality in China's cement industry in 2060, the cement output should be controlled below 750 million tons, but according to the needs of China's social and economic development, China's cement output in 2060 will remain at a high level of more than 1 billion tons. The general idea of carbon
reduction is to prevent and control at the source and reduce carbon emissions, including raw materials: reducing the amount of limestone to prepare low-carbon cementitious materials; fuel: alternative fuel; clean fuel instead of coal; energy saving and carbon reduction of production system: improving the process and equipment technology; efficient utilization of cement (concrete): reducing the amount of cement in concrete and prolonging the service life; Carbon sequestration of concrete and its products; CO2 capture and utilization: capture, purification and efficient utilization; carbon emission evaluation system (standard) and carbon sink (trading) market.
Ye Jiayuan concluded that the energy saving and emission reduction path of cement industry can be divided into four paths: low-carbon cement, alternative fuels, carbon capture and utilization technology and clean energy utilization.
Subsequently, Ye Jiayuan introduced the implementation status of low-carbon technology in cement industry from six aspects: low-carbon clinker technology, alternative fuel technology, low-carbon cement technology, low-carbon concrete technology and cutting-edge low-carbon technology, and introduced the recent progress of low-carbon work in China Building Material Group.
Ye Jiayuan concluded that according to the IEA technical route, carbon capture technology and low-carbon cement technology are the most potential emission reduction technologies, with 48% and 37% respectively. The emission reduction potential of clinker reduction technology in China is limited, and there is a gap between China and the current international level in the field of carbon capture and other disruptive technologies. high energy efficiency sintering, high efficiency grinding (roller press finish grinding) technology and equipment;
development, preparation and application technology of low carbon cement system; Key technologies for

key technologies for burning zero-carbon energy such as hydrogen energy into cement clinker;

On the basis of widely soliciting industry opinions, the low-carbon scientific and technological innovation route of China's cement industry is condensed.
Ye Jiayuan suggested that we should achieve a strong and orderly "chess game" pattern.

Looking forward to the future, enterprises
should break through the existing clinker system, innovate and design new low-carbon clinker (new clinker), break through the time lag and multi-scale barriers, build a digital system without "gap" in the whole process, and maximize the value of data. Supporting the whole process of low carbon (time-sharing power consumption, coal consumption, low carbon ratio, etc.) Still needs to continue efforts in the establishment of clinker production line data and clinker performance prediction model/software sharing mechanism (one enterprise one model), each production line to provide data, jointly develop the model, trained model one-to-one exclusive authorization to the production line free of charge. The development of clinker performance optimization technology and the free application of optimization system in production lines can strengthen cooperation.
