At the scene of the Convergent Energy and Power, dangerous goods handling personnel and police are dealing with it. On Wednesday, residents in the town reported a smell similar to burning glue, but the smell has now disappeared as the fire smoldered in the school building. Authorities say they have to let it burn on its own because the water will make it worse. Fire officials said Thursday that the smell was most likely from the burning of the battery's plastic cover.
Later, the local government said that the dangerous goods workers and the health department were monitoring the air quality. The police also said: "The measurement results are within the normal parameters. Convergent and Powin will use the next few days to collect more information."
Local authorities said the fire was one of two consecutive incidents near the Convergent site on County Road 1 and the village of Warwick on Church Street, but did not say what the second incident was, both of which may have been caused by lightning or power surges during the storm. Source

said in an online statement: "In both energy storage projects, the fire suppression devices in the affected energy storage containers have been activated, and we have deployed safety protocols and are actively monitoring the site.". The local fire department, team members, and Powin, the manufacturer of the energy storage system, were all represented at the scene of the fire, actively managing the situation and coordinating the response to the situation. Our main focus at the moment is the safety of people in the surrounding community. Convergent is actively monitoring the situation and will provide updates as the situation develops.
Local officials advised people within a quarter-mile radius to stay indoors as much as possible, keep windows closed until further notice and take preventive measure. Officials said the fire was expected to burn until at least Wednesday night and possibly longer.
