Nigeria's cement production capacity will reach 60 million tons in 2022

Nigeria's BUA Cement has signed an agreement with Sinoma Construction to build three new cement plants with an annual capacity of 3 million tonnes in Edo, Sokoto and Adamawa States at a total project cost of US $1.05 billion. After the completion of the expansion, Nigeria's national cement production capacity will reach 60 million tons.

According to Nigeria's Guardian on December 29, BUA Cement has signed an agreement with Sinoma Construction to build three new cement plants with an annual output of 3 million tons in Edo, Sokoto and Adamawa States, with a total project cost of $10.5 billion. These projects will be completed by the end of 2022, and upon completion, the total production capacity of BUA Cement will reach 20 million tons.

The Nigerian cement industry has three major players, with Dangote Cement (Dangote Cement Plc) being the leader with a market share of 60.6% and capacity of 29.3 million tons. Lafarge Africa Limited (Lafarge Africa Plc) has a 21.8 share of percent and a capacity of 10.5 million tons, while BUA currently has a 集团则占17.6 share of percent. After the completion of the expansion, Nigeria's national cement production capacity will reach 60 million tons.

BUA Chairman Rabiu said the expansion decision was aimed at transforming the manufacturing sector and increasing Nigeria's cement production capacity. He pointed out that Nigeria and the surrounding region have tremendous opportunities from construction, housing, infrastructure and related industries.
