Struggling in the Belt and Road: The "Magician" of the Net Red Cement Plant

   My name is Fang Yingmin. I am 35 years old. I am the overseas project manager of Sinoma International Nanjing Plate.

   On April 25, 2015, a magnitude 8.1 earthquake struck Nepal. After the earthquake, a lot of infrastructure in Nepal was destroyed, and a lot of cement was needed for reconstruction. However, the local cement production capacity was still relatively low, and it relied heavily on imports from India. We came here to build a factory at the end of 2016.

   In the dry project in Nepal, the uncontrollable logistics, more holidays, and all the problems caused by the rainy season are all obstacles that need to be overcome. The biggest headache is logistics. Two months in Africa is almost enough, but the longest time here is five months.

   In China, if we rent these ten cranes, it should be a matter of minutes, but in Nepal, it has become a big problem. It can be said that we rent all the cranes that can be rented in Nepal to the scene.

   The first thing to do is to solve the problem of manpower. There are more than 300 festivals in Nepal, and there are more than 50 holidays. At first, we need to recruit more people. For example, if we want 100 people, then we will recruit according to the target of 200 people. This is really driving me crazy for the project.

   Fang Yingmin mobilized Nepalese employees to stay together for two months to catch up with the delay due to logistics. The leader of the Nepalese workers group was a little embarrassed, but tried to mobilize everyone to see if they were willing to stay. Also set up a full attendance award, a month to work 26 days, to give him a great reward.

   Fang Yingmin: In fact, Nepalese workers are also very kind and simple. Quite a number of workers are willing to stay. I feel at ease.

   Fang Yingmin: In life, the rainy season is a headache for us. In the rainy season last year, the car that delivered food to us was washed away by the river. Just to be safe, we arranged for our loader to go out to buy vegetables. It is not convenient to buy food on rainy days, so you should prepare food for at least three days.

   Fang Yingmin: In this project, we have paid too much hard work, and we have overcome too many difficulties.

   During the whole construction period, Fang Yingmin walked more than 20,000 steps on the construction site every day, worked with his workmates on the project site for 330 days a year, handled a total of 75,000 square meters of logistics, and managed more than 1,000 Chinese and foreign employees.

   Fang Yingmin: It is certain that I have been homesick for more than ten years. Although I am only a small project manager, I can have such an opportunity to participate in the implementation of the Belt and Road Initiative, bring China's speed and quality to foreign countries, and benefit more people. In fact, this is not only our personal career, but also the mission entrusted by the country to our generation.

   Fang Yingmin: It took us more than a year to build this factory, which should be relatively fast among similar projects. I feel very proud from the bottom of my heart, because this factory is the largest and most environmentally friendly in Nepal. More than 300 builders built Nepal's largest cement plant in only 16 months, three years ahead of their European and American counterparts, with an annual production capacity of 40% of Nepal's total cement output.

   Fang Yingmin: Many local Nepalese people will take some photos and post them on the Internet with the factory area as the background. The Nepalese say that we conjure up the factory like a magician.

   Nepalese worker Min: Now the factory has been built, the road is easy to walk, and it is convenient for villagers to go out to do business.

   Indian worker: I like my job here very much. I have learned a lot of skills. It will be easier to find a job in the future.

   With the pace of reform and opening up, Fang Yingmin's Sinoma International (Nanjing) has built footprints all over Asia and Africa, with more than 100 general contracting projects and more than 1000 design projects all over the world. By 2017, the newly signed contracts for foreign contracted projects in Jiangsu Province exceeded 10 billion yuan for the first time!

   Fang Yingmin: After the completion of this factory, just like our children, it is a picture painted by our own hands. I hope our dream and our struggle can blossom in more countries along the Belt and Road.
