Ethiopian Prime Minister Hailemariam attended the ignition ceremony of the Habasha Cement Plant in Ethiopia, which was built by a Chinese company, and praised the Chinese company for its contribution to the improvement of Ethiopian cement production capacity.
Hailemariam said that in recent years, Ethiopia's demand for cement has been increasing. Habasha Cement Plant can make Ethiopia's annual cement production capacity reach 16.4 million tons, which is ten times higher than ten years ago. Ethiopia's cement can not only be self-sufficient, but also be exported to neighboring countries.
Habasha Cement Plant, located in the west of Addis Ababa, the capital of Ethiopia, is constructed by China North Heavy Industry Group Co., Ltd. with a total investment of about 150 million US dollars. In November 2014, the civil engineering of the cement plant was started. After the project was put into operation, the daily output of cement was 4500 tons, and the annual output of cement could reach 1.4 million tons.
Liu Hequn, chairman of Northern Heavy Industry Group Co., Ltd., said at the ceremony that Habasha Cement Plant is a major project with great economic prospects and social benefits. Its construction reflects the friendship between the Chinese and African people, and realizes economic cooperation and people-to-people communication; its completion and operation will strongly promote the construction and development of the capital economic circle of Ethiopia, enhance the self-sufficiency of cement in Ethiopia, increase employment opportunities, and benefit the local people.
In recent years, with the rapid development of infrastructure construction in Ethiopia and the continuous advancement of industrialization, the demand for cement is increasing. At present, several Chinese companies have invested in cement production in Ethiopia, which has promoted the improvement of cement production capacity in Ethiopia.
