The chief executive of Angola's Nova Cimangola ( "NC Cement"), Manuel Pacavira J, said the company would double its cement production to 3.6 million tons by the middle of 2018, when it opens its second factory. Since 2015, the second plant has invested 350 million US dollars.
Pacavira J Júnior revealed the figures during a visit to NC Cement by State Secretary Kiala Gabriel on National Industry Day. He said the new plant would create 250 jobs on an area of 700 hectares and that a test run of the equipment would be conducted in December, adding that the new plant would only produce clinker , the raw material for cement production.
Pacavira J Júnior also claimed that the old NC Cement plant spent US $50 million per year on importing clinker, and that once the new NC Cement plant in Cacuaco was up and running, the clinker would be transported by road to the old plant in Quicolo, saving a lot of foreign exchange.
Construction of the NC cost US $285 million and was financed by a consortium of Angolan and Portuguese banks.
From 2003 to 2011, additional plants and boilers have been added to increase production capacity, and the old plant now produces 1.8 million tons of cement annually.
The shareholders of NC Cement are Ciminvest (49%), the Angolan government (40%), Banco de Investimentos Angola (10%) and the remaining 1% is held by private investors.
