According to the usinenouvelle website on March 18, Lafarge Ciments and Holcim, two international cement producers, announced a merger of their businesses in Morocco, with the new company named Lafarge Holcim Maroc. The merger was agreed to by the Government of Morocco in 2015. According to a report released by Attijariwafa Bank in 2015, Morocco's largest bank, the two companies have a capacity of 11.2 million tons of cement, accounting for 56% of Morocco's total capacity.
On March 17, the two companies had a market capitalization of 38 billion dirhams on the Casablanca Stock Exchange, with Holcim Maroc having a market capitalization of 9 billion dirhams.
