According to Pakistan's Express Tribune, in the just-concluded 2014-2015 fiscal year, Pakistan's cement sales (including local sales and exports) reached 35.4 million tons, an increase of 3.5% over the 2013-2014 fiscal year. Among them, local sales reached 28.3 million tons, an increase of 8%, higher than average growth rate of 5% in the past five years. The analysis shows that the growth of local cement sales is due to the increase of private sector construction expenditure, the improvement of macroeconomic situation and security situation, and the increase of government investment in infrastructure construction.
In contrast, Pakistan's cement exports fell by 12% to 7.2 million tons in fiscal year 2015. This is mainly due to the decline in demand in Afghanistan, on the one hand, because of political instability in Afghanistan, on the other hand, Iran's low-cost cement has seized Pakistan's market share in Afghanistan.
Influenced by favorable factors such as good macroeconomic environment, lower interest rates and China-Pakistan Economic Corridor construction, it is expected that the sales volume of cement in Pakistan will continue to rise in the 2015-2016 fiscal year, and it is expected to achieve a 9% growth.
