Hohhot Railway Bureau firmly grasps the great opportunities brought by the implementation of the "the Belt and Road" and the coordinated development strategy of Beijing, Tianjin and Hebei, and opens the "acceleration engine" of railway construction. In 2014, 26.9 billion yuan was invested in capital construction, an increase of 6.4 billion yuan over the previous year, an increase of 31.2%, the largest in 50 years.
According to the Hohhot Railway Bureau, in 2015, the Hohhot Railway Bureau plans to complete a total investment of 25.04 billion yuan in railway construction, with a planned railway mileage of 1322 km, accounting for 1/6 of the new railway mileage in China. It is understood that the Inner Mongolia-Hami Railway, an important part of the National Medium and Long-term Railway Network Planning, will be opened to traffic by the end of 2015, with the original three-year construction period reduced to one and a half years. By then, the railway mileage from Urumqi to Hohhot will be shortened by 451 kilometers, thus opening up an important channel for the export of coal resources from Xinjiang and Inner Mongolia and the transportation of materials between China and Europe. At the same time, the construction of Zhangjiakou-Hohhot Railway Passenger Dedicated Line, the first new high-speed rail in Inner Mongolia, has completed 60% of the earthwork and 30% of the total investment, and will be completed in 2017, which will be connected with the planned Beijing-Zhangjiakou and Datong-Zhangjiakou Railway Passenger Dedicated Line. The Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region will be truly connected to the national high-speed railway network, and Hohhot will enter Beijing in 2 to 3 hours, so as to further accelerate the integration of Inner Mongolia into the Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei coordinated development strategy.
