Turkey's cement industry began in 1911 with an annual capacity of only 20,000 tons. In the 1950s, the output increased to 370000 tons per year, but until the 1970s, the domestic cement market was in short supply. With the increase of cement exports year by year, the cement industry in Turkey has become increasingly important in the overall economic structure, while the cement industry plays a significant role in the national employment level. Turkey's cement industry has grown to 68 cement plants (48 clinker and cement complex plants and 20 grinding plants) with 15000 people employed.
Cement production in Turkey uses only its own raw material resources, and the total output is sufficient to meet domestic demand. The cement industry in Turkey has achieved AB norms by reducing costs and modernizing investment instruments. From 2012 to 2013, the output of cement increased by 8.97%. In 2013, the output of cement and clinker was 71.3 million tons and 60.2 million tons respectively, of which 60.9 million tons were consumed in the domestic market and 9.6 million tons were exported, that is, 85.4% was sold in the domestic market and 13.5% was exported. From 2012 to 2013, the domestic market consumption increased by 13% and the export volume decreased by 0.8%.

In 2013, the Turkish Cement Association investigated the growth of cement production and domestic sales, and found that the growth of production and domestic sales occurred in the Marmara Sea and the Mediterranean Sea.
In 2014, Turkey's cement industry achieved positive results: 71.2 million tons of cement output, 62.5 million tons of clinker output, 63.2 million tons of cement consumption in the domestic market, and 7.7 million tons of overseas exports; that is, 88.7% of the sales in the domestic market and 10.7% of the exports. Compared with 2013, domestic consumption increased by 3.7%, while export volume continued to decline by 20.5%.

Due to the suitable climatic conditions, Turkey's cement production and sales in autumn and winter have increased rapidly. In 2014, the domestic cement sales volume of Turkey increased and the export cement volume declined. According to the survey, the growth areas of production and sales volume were mainly in the Marmara, Mediterranean and Aegean regions, while the export volume declined mainly in the southeast and Black Sea regions.
The urban reconstruction project will greatly promote the development of Turkey's construction industry and cement industry, the domestic infrastructure construction will continue to grow, and the demand for cement will be increased, which will continue until 2023. Cement production is expected to reach 99.8 million tons and cement consumption will reach 78.9 million tons.
