Italy's Buzzi Unicem acquired 100% of Lafarge Russian cement Uralcement for 104 million euros in cash. After the acquisition, Buzzi Unicem's annual cement production capacity in Russia will be expanded to 4.5 million tons.
Uralcement is located in Korkino, south of Chelyabinsk, Russia, with an annual cement production capacity of 1.1 million tons. Buzzi Unicem had planned to acquire Uralcement in September 2014, but it was only recently that the acquisition plan was approved by the regulatory authorities.
The acquisition is part of Buzzi Unicem's efforts to improve its market position in the Urals and also benefit from the integrated production network of Dyckerhoff Cement in Sukhoy Log. In 1991, Dyckerhoff Cement Company of Germany acquired Sukholozhskcement and formally entered the Russian cement market.
