It is reported that the Philippines sold more than 16 million tons in the first three quarters of 2014, up 7.7%. Among them, cement sales in the third quarter reached 5.4 million tons, up 11.9% from 4.8 million tons in the same period last year. Growth in the third quarter of 2014 was up from 3.2% in the second quarter.
The growth of performance is mainly due to good climate conditions and the increase of infrastructure projects. Much of the infrastructure has been severely damaged since Typhoon Haiyan passed through in November 2013. Cement sales growth has been driven by the rehabilitation and reconstruction of infrastructure by the Philippine government, as well as domestic infrastructure public-private partnership projects.
The booming construction industry is the main reason for the increase in cement sales. Revenue at Holcim Philippines grew 8.5% in the second quarter of 2014 from a year earlier. CEO Eduardo Sahagun pointed out that the continuous investment of the government and the private sector and the construction of some major public-private partnership projects in major cities have contributed to the growth of cement sales in the Philippines, and said that the company has the ability to meet this huge demand for cement and ensure the supply of cement in the market.
