The Competition Commission of Mauritius (CCM) has launched an investigation into the Lafarge-Holcim merger, which will determine whether the merger will have a negative impact on competition in the cement market in Mauritius. Lafarge and Holcim have said that if the merger is successful, Lafarge and Holcim will sell its shares in Holcim Mauritius to a third party.
"We appreciate that Lafarge and Holcim have informed CCM of their merger plans. In addition, Lafarge and Holcim have taken positive steps to restore competition in the Mauritius cement market," said Kiran Meetarbhan, Executive Director of CCM. "CCM encourages all parties to provide their views on the possible impact of this merger. So that CCM can make an informed decision.
