The United States Geological Survey (USGS) has released monthly data on cement shipments and clinker production in the United States in April 2014 and January-April 2014, as well as cement and clinker imports in the United States.
In April 2014, shipments of Portland and blended cement in the United States and Puerto Rico totaled 7.4 million tons, up about 11% from a year earlier. In the first four months of 2014, cement shipments totaled 23.1 million tons, up nearly 6% from a year earlier. The major Portland cement manufacturers in April were Texas, California, Missouri, Florida, and Pennsylvania (in descending order of production). Cement production in these States accounts for almost 46% of the country's total. The major cement consuming States were Texas, California, Florida, Ohio and Illinois (in descending order), which accounted for 41% of the nation's total cement shipments in April.
In April 2014, clinker production reached 5.7 million tons, an increase of nearly 3% over the same period last year. In the first four months of 2014, clinker production totaled 20 million tons, up about 4% year on year. The major clinker producing States in April were California, Texas, Florida, Missouri and Pennsylvania (in descending order), which accounted for about 49% of the country's total clinker production.
Shipments of masonry cement increased by about 11% year-on-year to 203,000 tons in April 2014. Shipments of masonry cement totaled 664,000 tons in the first four months of 2014, up nearly 7% from a year earlier. The major masonry cement consuming States were Florida, Texas, California, North Carolina and Georgia (in descending order of consumption), which accounted for nearly 52% of the nation's total shipments in April.
In April 2014, the import volume of cement and clinker was 545 thousand tons, down nearly 15% from the same period last year. Imports of cement and clinker totaled 1.8 million tons in the first four months of 2014, down 3% from a year earlier.
