Up to now, Hualien Peace Factory has attracted more than 10 million visitors, Yingde Open Factory has received more than 230,000 visitors, and Shaoguan Factory Water Park has become a popular leisure space for community residents. It is reported that the plan is to integrate cement manufacturing with public space, ecological education and community life, and explore new possibilities for industrial and urban symbiosis. Chang An-ping, chairman of the Taiwan Cement Group, believes that factories can never be truly independent of the local area. Instead of letting people stand outside the fence and imagine, it is better to open the door and let people really come in and see.
The Nautilus Library
, a waste disposal building in the Heping Factory in Hualien, Taiwan Cement Corporation. It also won two international architecture and design awards, Good Green Design and International Architecture Award. This building facing the Pacific Ocean looks like an art gallery, but inside it bears the "hard core" function of dealing with domestic waste. After treatment, domestic waste is converted into alternative fuels and raw materials for cement production and re-enters the production cycle. Unlike traditional factories, which hide the process, visitors can watch the operation of the facility directly through the viewing window, and the environmental monitoring data are also displayed publicly in real time.
In the process of opening up, Taiwan Cement found that only displaying the production line was not enough to close the distance between the factory and the residents. If the family is willing to stay in the factory for a few more hours, drink a cup of coffee, take the children to do handicraft, and even come back on weekends, the connection between the factory and the community will be truly established. Therefore, "openness" gradually extends from visiting the production field to deep integration with local life.

closely with the children. In 2024, Taiwan Cement Guangdong Yingde Open Factory was officially completed. In the green "garden factory" environment, the factory area has set up an ecological zone and parent-child participation in cement hand-made experience. Yingde black tea, a local specialty, has also been introduced into the DIY activities of black tea soap. Children also have the opportunity to get close contact with the sheep who undertake the task of weeding in the photovoltaic area, and get the wonderful experience of feeding sheep in the cement plant. These contents seem to have nothing to do with cement production, but they have become the reason for many surrounding residents to enter the cement plant for the first time.
Taiwan Cement's "Open Factory" does not copy the same design to different cities, but everywhere it goes, it will rethink: What is here? What do people who live here need? What more can factory do for this place?
When factories are willing to open their doors, people's perception of industry begins to change. The world within the walls may not always belong to the factory itself. On weekends, people can come in with their children to see how cement is produced, where garbage goes, to know a few plants, to make a cement work, or to feed those "sheep with work numbers".
