According to Xinhua News Agency, on December 30, the Yalong River Kara Hydropower Station Dam Concrete Pouring and Engineering Construction Promotion Conference was successfully held, and the first RCC pouring of the Kara Hydropower Station Dam of Yalong River Company of China Electric Power Construction and Hydropower Bureau 7 began. It marks that the power station has formally changed from the foundation pit excavation stage to the dam concrete pouring stage.
Kara Hydropower Station, located in Muli Xizangan Autonomous County, Liangshan Yi Autonomous Prefecture, Sichuan Province, is the seventh-stage hydropower station in the middle reaches of the Yalong River, the first million-kilowatt hydropower station in China to adopt EPC mode in the whole cycle, a key project in the energy field of the 14th Five-Year Plan, and a key project in the construction of a clean energy base in Southwest China. It is also an important support to optimize the regional energy structure and help achieve the goal of "double carbon". The total installed capacity of the power station is 1020MW. The main structures of the project are composed of water retaining structures, flood discharge and energy dissipation structures and diversion and power generation systems. The water retaining structures are RCC gravity dams with a maximum height of 123 meters. Digital, information and intelligent technologies are deeply applied in the excavation and concrete pouring
of Kala Hydropower Station, and the management mode of large-scale hydropower construction is innovated and upgraded. The project faces many challenges in the excavation stage of foundation pit, such as complex geological conditions, large seepage of foundation pit and so on. The key team and the commando team of Party members actively carry out technical research, optimize the construction scheme according to the complex geological conditions, adopt the operation mode of "layered excavation, supporting with layers", with the help of intelligent construction platform, use digital and intelligent technology to strengthen the construction management. The stability of the slope is effectively controlled, which lays a solid foundation for the successful transition of the dam and the flood discharge and energy dissipation system of the Kala Hydropower Station in advance. After the power station is put into operation, the average annual power generation is about 4.65 billion degrees, which is equivalent to saving 1.4 million tons of standard coal and reducing 3.2 million tons of carbon dioxide emissions annually, which is of great significance for optimizing the power supply structure of Sichuan power grid.
