According to local media reports on July 20, a fire broke out at the Cartersville, Georgia, plant of Qcells, an American solar manufacturing subsidiary of Korean photovoltaic manufacturer Hanwha .
Reported that on Monday evening (July 20), a fire broke out in a silicon ingot production area of Qcells'photovoltaic plant in Cartersville, and firefighters rushed to the scene to deal with it.
Firefighters told the media that the local fire department received a dispatch at about 5:19 p.m. and rushed to the factory area to put out the fire.
As for the cause of the fire in Qcells, the above-mentioned firefighters revealed that if there is an abnormality in the production process of silicon ingots, high-temperature materials may fall to the bottom of the equipment, forming extremely high-temperature molten materials, thus causing the fire. After firefighters entered the scene, they put out the fire, carried out quarantine on the affected equipment and cooled the relevant areas.
In addition, the firefighter said that about three weeks ago, the fire department had dealt with a similar fire.
Not long ago, in early June this year, Qcells announced that the battery capacity of the Cartersville plant was officially put into operation. It marks that the factory can complete the production process from " silicon ingot- silicon wafer-battery-module ". After
the plant was put into full operation, Qcells will add 3.3GW of vertically integrated capacity (covering silicon ingots, wafers and cells ) and 3.5G W module capacity.
