1.9GW/7.6GWh！ Yunnan Announces List of New Shared Energy Storage Projects in 2026

On July 2, Yunnan Development and Reform Commission and Yunnan Energy Bureau issued the Notice on Issuing the List of New Shared Energy Storage Projects in Yunnan Province in 2026, and 13 projects were selected, involving a total installed capacity of 1.9 GW/7.6 G Wh. It is worth noting that 11 of the 13 projects are all-vanadium flow energy storage projects and 2 are sodium-ion battery energy storage projects.

The notice calls for speeding up the progress of project construction. The project filing shall be completed within two months after the issuance of the notice, and the substantive construction of this batch of projects shall be started within one year, and the time for the sodium ion energy storage project to be put into operation and connected to the grid shall not exceed one year . The maximum time of putting into operation and grid connection after the start of the all-vanadium liquid flow energy storage project shall not exceed 2 years . It is also clear that if the construction progress is slow, we should urge rectification; if the rectification is not effective, we should resolutely recover the project development rights in accordance with the law and regulations.

The notice clearly States that it is strictly forbidden to transfer or resell the right to develop the project in any way to change the actual controller of the project in the list, and that the scale and content of the construction shall not be changed without authorization. In order to accelerate the large-scale and high-quality development of new energy storage in the province , improve the level of new energy consumption and the regulation capacity of the power system, The List of New Shared Energy Storage Projects in Yunnan Province in 2026 is now issued. The relevant matters will be notified as follows:

First, strengthen the guarantee of project elements. State (municipal) development and reform commissions and energy bureaus should supervise and guide the projects in the list to do a good job in land use and environmental impact assessment, improve the efficiency of examination and approval, actively coordinate and solve project problems, and promote the project to speed up construction and put into operation on schedule.

2. Speed up the formalities of project grid connection. Yunnan Power Grid Company has accelerated the acceptance of project grid-connected applications, the review of access schemes, the issuance of opinions, the construction of supporting power grids, and the signing of grid-connected agreements.

3. Speed up the progress of project construction. The State (City) Development and Reform Commission and the Energy Bureau should strengthen overall planning of their work and promote project construction in strict accordance with the relevant requirements of the Special Action Plan for High-quality Development of New Energy Storage in Yunnan Province (2025-2027) issued by the Provincial Development and Reform Commission and the Provincial Energy Bureau (Cloud Energy Science and Technology [2025] 293), which will be completed within two months after the issuance of this circular. The filing information shall be copied to the Provincial Development and Reform Commission and the Provincial Energy Bureau; the preliminary work of the project shall be accelerated to ensure that the construction of this batch of projects shall be substantially started within one year, the time for putting into operation and grid connection after the commencement of the sodium-ion energy storage project shall not exceed one year, and the time for putting into operation and grid connection after the commencement of the all-vanadium liquid flow energy storage project shall not exceed two years. Continuously track the progress of the project, supervise and rectify the slow progress of the construction, and resolutely withdraw the project development rights in accordance with the law and regulations if the rectification is not effective.

4. Strengthen project management. State (municipal) development and reform commissions and energy bureaus shall strengthen the management of projects in the list, strictly prohibit the transfer or reselling of project development rights in any way to change the actual controllers of projects in the list, and shall not alter the scale and content of construction without authorization. Supervise and guide the project construction management to ensure the safe and orderly implementation of the project.
