June 29, CCTV Finance and Economics reported on the development of perovskite space photovoltaic technology. Chen Qi, a professor at the Frontier Interdisciplinary Academy of Sciences of
Beijing Institute of Technology, is one of the earliest scientists in the world to focus on photovoltaic technology of perovskite materials. Over the past three years, Chen Qi has led the team to optimize the formula hundreds of times in order to design photovoltaic cells with more stability and longer life in the space environment.
Chen Qi told reporters that at present, the cost of gallium arsenide batteries mainly used in the market is as high as 100000-300000 yuan per square meter, while the cost of perovskite batteries is less than one tenth of that.
According to the report, Chen Qi started his business for half a year and has set up an engineering and commercial team to build the world's first perovskite space photovoltaic pilot line in Changping, Beijing. He expects to achieve mass production in 2027 and start commercial sales in 2028.

data show that Chen Qi is the founder of Star Power (Beijing) Technology Co., Ltd. (Referred to as "Star Power"). Founded in December 2025, the company focuses on the development of commercial space energy, and lays out ultra-high power-to-mass ratio space photovoltaic solutions through subversive space-grade perovskite energy materials technology.
Digital New Energy DataBM. Com noted that since May this year, the action of Star Power has been intensive.
On May 9, Star Power conducted an angel round of financing, with a financing amount of hundreds of millions of yuan , involving Yingnuo Angel Fund, Beijing Future Science and Technology City Fund, Kaihui Fund, Houxue Capital and Cathay Pacific Haitong.
On May 11, with the successful docking of the Tianzhou 10 spacecraft with the Tiangong Space Station, the second batch of extravehicular exposure verification missions will be carried out for the Star Power perovskite space photovoltaic samples. Since July 2025, samples of perovskite space photovoltaic cells developed by the company have successfully carried out three batches of China's space station carrying and extravehicular exposure test missions, according to the official micro-blog of Star Power.
On May 16, Star Power announced the construction of the world's first perovskite space photovoltaic pilot line in the Energy Valley of Beijing Future Science City , with a total investment of about 150 million yuan . It is expected to be completed and put into operation in August this year.

On June 8, the Beijing Key Laboratory of New Generation Photovoltaic Materials and Technology Application, led by Peking University and jointly constructed by Beijing University of Technology, Star Power, Yingli Energy and Tianyi Space Science and Technology Co., Ltd., was officially approved. Focusing on the development strategy of the new generation of photovoltaic technology,
the laboratory focuses on the core development directions of "stacked high efficiency", "flexible adaptation" and "aerospace application", and will focus on breaking through key technologies such as lightweight structure design, flexible integrated manufacturing, power control and energy management, reliable packaging and interface adaptation of space photovoltaic system.
Among them, Star Power will focus on the engineering preparation of space photovoltaic modules , the integration of space energy systems and the promotion of industrial applications. Support the engineering realization and application expansion of the laboratory in the direction of space photovoltaic system.
