Ministry of Ecology and Environment: Complete the ultra-low emission transformation of 100 million tons of cement clinker production capacity in 2026

On February 27, the Ministry of Ecology and Environment held a regular press conference in February, focusing on the theme of "fighting the battle of defending the blue sky in depth and promoting the construction of a beautiful blue sky in an all-round way".

At the meeting, Li Tianwei, Director of the Department of Atmospheric Environment, said that 2026 was the beginning of the 15th Five-Year Plan, and that the next step would be to study and implement the new deployment and requirements of the Fourth Plenary Session of the 20th Central Committee of the Communist Party of China for the protection of the ecological environment, adhere to environmental protection for the people, and focus on PM2.5. Give full play to the leading role of environmental air quality standards, organize and implement a number of key emission reduction projects and special governance actions, promote the overall improvement of air quality, benefit the general public with more blue sky and white clouds, and build a more solid blue sky foundation for the construction of beautiful China.

In 2026, it was mentioned in the key work that the potential of pollution reduction in key areas should be tapped. We will promote the transformation of ultra-low emissions in key industries with high quality, and complete the transformation of ultra-low emissions in 100 million tons of cement clinker and 50 million tons of coking capacity by 2026. Focus on key areas and guide local governments to carry out investigation and renovation of inefficient and ineffective pollution control facilities in key industries and classified renovation of traditional industrial clusters. We will promote clean heating in northern China according to local conditions, carry out in-depth comprehensive renovation of boilers and kilns, expand the scope of elimination of coal-fired boilers, and promote the conversion of industrial furnaces and kilns fueled by coal, petroleum coke, residual oil and heavy oil to power plant heat, industrial waste heat or clean energy.
