On May 27, the "2025 China Cement Double Carbon Conference and the 13th Energy Conservation and Environmental Protection Technology Exchange Conference" sponsored by China Cement Network officially opened in Wuhan. Wang Fazhou, member of the Standing Committee of the Party Committee and vice president of Wuhan University of Technology, delivered a speech at the conference.
He pointed out that under the policy impetus, the cement industry is actively exploring a variety of emission reduction paths. From raw material substitution to low-carbon fuel application, from energy-saving technology transformation to new energy utilization, from carbon capture and storage to digital management, many enterprises and scientific research institutions have achieved remarkable results in technological innovation and practical application. However, carbon emission reduction in cement industry is a complex systematic project, which still faces many challenges. The particularity of production process, the dependence of energy structure and the rigidity of product demand make the task of carbon emission reduction in the cement industry arduous and urgent, and it is urgent to make joint efforts and cooperation inside and outside the industry to explore a green and low-carbon development path in line with the characteristics of the cement industry.
Dear leaders, experts and colleagues:
Hello! It is a great honor to deliver a speech on behalf of Wuhan University of Technology at the 2025 China Cement Double Carbon Conference and the 13th Energy Conservation and Environmental Protection Technology Exchange Conference. Today, we gather in Wuhan to discuss the development of the cement industry under the goal of "double carbon", which is a grand exchange event of great significance.
Under the severe situation of global climate change, China has firmly embarked on the road of green and low-carbon development, and actively fulfilled the solemn commitment of carbon peak and carbon neutrality. As the basic industry of the national economy, cement industry plays an irreplaceable role in national construction, but at the same time, as a high energy consumption and high emission industry, it is also facing tremendous pressure to reduce emissions. On March 20, 2025, the Ministry of Ecology and Environment issued the Work Plan for the National Carbon Emission Trading Market Covering the Iron and Steel, Cement and Aluminum Smelting Industries, specifying a series of requirements for the cement industry to complete the first performance by the end of 2025 and gradually tighten the carbon quota, which not only points out the direction for the development of the cement industry, but also brings unprecedented challenges and opportunities to the industry. Driven
by the policy, the cement industry is actively exploring a variety of emission reduction paths.
Wuhan University of Technology, as a national key university directly under the Ministry of Education with engineering as the leading factor and multi-disciplinary coordinated development, has been deeply engaged in the building materials and construction industry for more than 50 years, and has profound academic accumulation and strong scientific research strength in the field of cement and other building materials. The school has the National Key Laboratory of Silicate Science and Advanced Building Materials, which actively carries out forward-looking and original basic and applied basic research around the whole life cycle of "preparation-application-service-regeneration" of silicate building materials. With the continuous efforts of the team, the laboratory has carried out in-depth research in the key links and frontier areas of cement production, such as new cement production technology, research and development of low-carbon cement materials, and co-disposal technology of cement kiln wastes, and has achieved a series of fruitful scientific research results, providing strong support for technological innovation and personnel training in the cement industry.
We are well aware that the green and low-carbon development of the cement industry requires not only technological breakthroughs, but also the guidance of industrial policies, the improvement of market mechanisms and the participation of the whole industry. The holding of this conference has set up a high-end platform for the cement industry, which integrates policy interpretation, technology exchange and experience sharing, and is of great significance for promoting the green transformation of the industry.
In the following agenda of the conference, we hope that leaders, experts and business representatives can speak freely and share their insights. We will discuss the development direction and implementation path of the cement industry under the goal of double carbon, exchange the latest energy-saving and carbon-reducing technologies and practical experience in depth, and work together to promote the cement industry to achieve a greener, low-carbon, intelligent and sustainable development.
Finally, I wish this conference a complete success! I wish all the leaders, experts and guests a smooth and healthy stay in Wuhan!
Thank you all!
