On January 1, the much-anticipated " 2024 Top 100 List of China's Cement Clinker Production Capacity" was released, which is the 21st consecutive year that China Cement Network has released the list.
Among them, great changes have taken place in the list of overseas investment and production in 2024, with Taiwan Cement ranking first with 18.035 million tons, a significant jump from 2023. Xiamen Yongfugui Group entered the top ten list, ranking tenth with China Building Materials. In
2024, Taiwan Cement has shown great determination and action in overseas expansion, and actively promoted its internationalization strategy.
On March 7, Taiwan Cement Group announced the completion of delivery procedures related to expanding investment in low-carbon cement in Europe, with a total amount of 621 million euros (about 4.87 billion yuan) ; After Turkey increased its shareholding by 20% and Portugal increased its shareholding by 60%, it held 60% of the "joint venture company of Turkish assets" and 100% of the shares of Portugal Cimpor Cement Company, formally becoming one of the main suppliers of low-carbon cement in Europe. Portugal's Cimpor, which holds 100% of
Taiwan Cement's expanded shareholding, has built the world's only two commercial cement plants using 90% of biomass fuels in Cameroon, Africa, and the world's first large-scale production base for calcined clay cement in Ivory Coast. And reduce that carbon emission by at least 40% compared with the traditional cement. After acquiring the right to operate Cimpor, Taiwan Cement will expand its research and development of low-carbon cement and continue to develop ultra-low-carbon cement, aiming to become one of the brands capable of producing the lowest carbon cement in the world by 2025. On July 19 ,
local time, CIMPOR, a Portuguese subsidiary of Taiwan Cement, opened the world's first cement plant with innovative cement process and no cement kiln in Cameroon. The newly opened Taiwan Cement Cameroon plant will produce 1.2 million tons of cement and 400000 tons of calcined clay annually. The cement plant uses a large number of low-carbon calcined clay instead of high-carbon clinker used in traditional cement plants. Because of the use of calcined clay, the cement production process does not require high temperature to reduce energy use. Therefore , the low-carbon cement produced by Taiwan Cement Cameroon Plant reduces carbon by 40% compared with traditional cement. Zhang Anping, chairman of
Taiwan Cement Group, believes that companies that do not understand carbon will not be able to survive in the future, and low carbon is absolutely an international market. He believes that by expanding its investment in Turkey and Cimpor, Taiwan Cement is expected to become one of the few major suppliers of the lowest carbon cement in the world in the future, with a high degree of carbon competitiveness.
In addition to Taiwan Cement, Conch Cement, Huaxin Cement, Red Lion Group, Western Cement and other cement enterprises have maintained a strong momentum in overseas distribution.
It can be seen that overseas development has become an important part for domestic cement enterprises to cope with the downturn of the industry and enhance their ability to resist risks and profitability.
