Recently, Sichuan Province reported the third round of the fifth batch of typical cases of provincial ecological environment protection supervision. Among them, the ecological problems caused by mining in some mines in Bazhong City were highlighted and notified by name.
According to reports, in June 2025, the Sichuan Eco-environmental Protection Supervision Group found that some mines in Nanjiang and Tongjiang counties of Bazhong City were illegally exploited, destroyed the ecology, extensive environmental management and inadequate ecological restoration. Bazhong City
is located in the hinterland of Qinba Mountains and the southern foot of Micang Mountains, with a forest coverage rate of 63.18%. There are many natural reserves and abundant mineral resources in Bazhong City, which is an important ecological barrier in the upper reaches of the Yangtze River and Qinling Mountains. There are 93 mines in the city, mainly distributed in Nanjiang County and Tongjiang County. The Forest Law of the
People's Republic of China and the Mineral Resources Law of the People's Republic of China stipulate that deforestation, quarrying and other acts of destroying trees and woodlands are prohibited. Where cultivated land, grasslands and woodlands are damaged by mining, mining enterprises shall take measures to reclaim and utilize them, plant trees and grass, or take other measures to utilize them according to local conditions. Inspectors found that there were shortcomings in the supervision and management of forestry departments in Nanjiang and Tongjiang counties, and that the responsibility of compacting mining enterprises to fulfill "who mines, who governs, while mining, while governing" was not in place, and that vegetation restoration was generally not timely and qualified. Hongsheng Sandstone Processing Plant in Tongjiang County should complete the ecological restoration of 4.45 mu of damaged forest land by November 2023, and the restoration of vegetation and forestry production conditions will not be completed until May 2025.
