with the increasingly severe climate challenges and the accelerating urbanization process, we can't help thinking: What will the future city look like?
It should not only be a pile of reinforced concrete, but also a green, resilient, low-carbon and circular city, a harmonious coexistence of man and nature, a city that takes into account both social well-being and economic vitality, and a city that is truly responsible for future generations.
As a leading partner in the global development of sustainable buildings, Holcim firmly believes that buildings can be part of the climate solution. We propose four critical paths to help build NextGen Cities.
01. The carbon footprint of sustainable
buildings comes not only from the use stage, but also from the process of material production and construction.
Holcim's ECOPact low carbon concrete reduces embedded carbon emissions by at least 30% without relying on carbon offsets. Solutions such

as ECOPact are also supported by the Environmental Product Declaration (EPD). The statement, independently verified by a third party, covers the environmental performance of the whole process from the construction stage to the use and even the end of the life cycle, and helps major urban construction projects achieve ambitious sustainable development goals.
By 2030, Holcim will provide more than 8 million tons of near-zero-carbon cement annually, injecting strong impetus into urban carbon reduction.

The world produces billions of tons of construction waste every year, but they should not be the "end point", but the "new starting point".
Holcim advocates the concept of recycling architecture: when designing, we should consider future disassembly, so that materials can be continuously recycled in the city.
Through ECOCycle ® recycling technology, we efficiently recycle, upgrade and recycle building demolition waste (CDM) into high-quality recycled building materials.
Holcim has set a target of recycling more than 20 million tonnes of construction demolition waste (CDM) by 2030. In many major metropolitan areas around the world, we work with partners to accelerate the development of recycled buildings and use Holcim's ECOCycle ® recycling technology to upgrade building demolition waste into sustainable building materials.

03. The heating, cooling and power consumption required for the operation of energy-saving
buildings account for up to 80% of urban carbon dioxide emissions. By using efficient insulation materials and advanced roofing systems in new and existing buildings to improve energy efficiency, cities will have a unique opportunity to accelerate into the next generation of future cities.
Considering that 80% of the current buildings and infrastructure will still be in use by 2050, the market for energy-saving renovation and renovation is booming.

In this regard, Holcim is also ready to provide future cities with energy-saving solutions for new projects and existing buildings to reduce energy consumption throughout the life cycle of buildings.
Green roofs absorb heat from the air and reduce surface temperatures by 30 – 40% compared to conventional roofs. As a natural insulation layer, they can significantly reduce the cooling and heating needs of the building, while introducing nature into the city, promoting biodiversity and providing stormwater management functions.
Through its leading brands Elevate and ZinCo, Holcim offers a range of high-performance, energy-efficient and eco-friendly green roofing systems for new and existing retrofits and renovations.
Whether it's a new project or a new old building, we can provide energy-saving support throughout the life cycle.

Pro-nature and Resilient Cities
Rising sea levels, flooding, extreme heat – our climate is changing, and ensuring that homes, schools, and other critical infrastructure are resilient enough to meet these challenges is critical. At the same time, integrating nature into cities helps to protect biodiversity and enhance the well-being of residents.
Holcim's building solutions help cities become more sustainable and resilient.
Resilience is not against nature, but into nature.

From low-carbon concrete to recycling technology, from green roofing to resilient design, we are writing a new chapter of sustainable development with global cities with innovation as the pen and responsibility as the ink.
Holcim, with you, Build Progress for People and the Planet.
