On January 8, at the annual general meeting of the Vietnam Cement Association held in Quang Ninh, Vietnam's cement producers raised many questions on the development strategy of the industry, among which six key issues will be summarized by the Cement Association and reported to the Prime Minister.
1. Developing environmental protection cement industry
In the future, the cement industry has determined that environmental issues will be the key factor determining production efficiency. Without basic sustainable development solutions, cement production will face enormous challenges. Nguyen Quang Cung, chairman of the
Cement Association, also said that society's perception of the industry needs to be changed to turn cement into environmentally friendly production, and that factories must be green, clean and low-emission; Mining areas must be managed scientifically, and areas that have been developed must be improved and transformed into landscape areas like man-made lakes. Le Trung Thanh, director of the
Building Materials Research Institute, commented: Among the three development factors of economy, society and environment, the cement industry has done well in the first two factors. However, against the background of very sensitive public opinion on pollution and resource loss, the environmental factor still faces many challenges.
Managing Director Li Hongming asked: What do the locals think of the cement industry? He believes that in the past, the development of this industry has not aroused very good public opinion, because the local views are "cement loss", "land loss" and "tax difficulties". At this rate, local governments will propose to increase the tax on natural resources. In fact, aware of this trend, some large enterprises have also made progress in sustainable development. Hummingbird wings are always one step ahead. Vicem CEO Le Hong Minh said the company has incorporated environmental treatment costs into the calculation of the price per ton of cement. All Vicem units will deploy plants in all production areas for cleaning and landscaping. Mr. Liu Chang, a representative
of Chinfon Cement, said that in addition to installing the gas emission system, Chinfon Cement had planted 5,000 trees in the factory in the past.
It can be said that today, almost all branches are aware of this problem. However, greater efforts are needed to change the views of public opinion.
2. Continue to expand investment, improve technology and improve productivity
. The meeting also agreed that the outstanding problems of the cement industry are low productivity, low competitive pressure and small plant scale (furnace capacity & lt; 2500 tons/day), high cost and low profit margin are all existing problems, and the whole industry should improve quality and efficiency.
In public opinion, the industry is oversupplied and should not invest further, while Nguyen Quang Cung said that if we stop investing, the industry will suffer huge losses. Cement is also a growing technology industry, where investment is to invest in transformation and upgrading.. Gradually replacing old, outdated and small-scale production lines, this investment will enable Vietnam's cement industry to continue to develop, update advanced and modern technology, maintain and improve product quality, and improve the image of Vietnam's cement industry to domestic and international consumers.
3. Invest only & > Comments from Vicem Le Hong Minh on 5000t/d cement production line
: Due to small capacity, low labor productivity, high fixed cost (more than $12/ton) and very low profit margin, Small-scale production lines, such as Songmhao's rotary kiln with a capacity of 2500t/d, have a low return on investment. Therefore, Vicem will formulate some plans to transform the capacity of some low-capacity furnace lines, and even merge and integrate some less efficient brands.
Over the past 20 years, the production practice of the whole industry has also shown that low-capacity factories have great difficulties in enterprise production and brand development, and domestic consumers and international customers are also allergic to small factories, so sales are very difficult. Therefore, the meeting also said that the investment of production lines greater than 5000t/d will ensure long-term production efficiency.
4. Continue to promote investment
in waste heat power generation system, which is a major policy of the industry and was first mentioned in the cement plan of the Prime Minister's Resolution No.1488/QD-TTg in 2011. So far, more than 10 production lines in the whole industry have installed this system, which is basically effective and some are efficient. The
Long Son representative said that with two Long Son cement production lines (kiln capacity of 6000 t/d), which drew on experience from other plants and selected suitable process equipment, the installation of two power generation systems with an installed capacity of 6.5 MWh could work very effectively.
Investment in the installation of a waste heat power generation system not only partially solves the power demand (20% -25%), but also reduces the dust emission to the environment and reduces the system temperature, which helps to prolong the dust removal life and improve the fan efficiency by 15-20%. In Long Son Cement, there is hardly any dust emitted through the chimney, and the dust concentration here is only 12 to 17 mg/m3, which is much lower than the standard.
At Vicem's initiative, the system will be rolled out in the near future. The meeting held that during the 3-year period (2019-2021), the whole industry will complete the installation of emission power generation systems, especially when the cement industry is under pressure from rising power prices.
5. Application of industrial revolution 4.0
Under the background of the fourth technological revolution, facing the pressure of competition, the whole industry has accelerated the application of information technology in production, enterprise management, human resources training and deep investment, so as to optimize the management system, improve productivity and improve quality. Departmental units should have appropriate awareness and focus on the establishment and development of internal information systems, the main elements of which include connectivity, interconnectivity and security. Enterprises also need to set up websites to communicate with customers and partners in a transparent and timely manner, and build internal database systems to update, develop and use efficiently, thus significantly reducing transaction costs.
Network management can save a lot of costs and help process transactions in a timely manner by optimizing resource allocation and scheduling. Vicem has been deploying information technology applications in a deep and extensive manner, and Vicem has proposed that by the end of the first quarter of 2019, it will complete the management of all software sales channels through the Internet, while deploying the use of electronic invoices, the entire Vicem operating system will be networked, and even cement exports will be automated through the network.
6. Transform cement plants into waste disposal sites
In order to change society's perception of cement production facilities, the cement industry also needs to make a major shift in research into the use of industrial solid wastes (cinder, gypsum, etc.) As raw materials to replace traditional additives that would otherwise have to be mined or imported.
On the other hand, before the price of coal rises, units also need to study how to convert high-calorific value waste into alternative fuels, which will help units become more proactive in fuel issues and solve the problem of garbage pollution that causes social problems.
However, the Assembly also noted that the issues were not simple and that there were many problems, especially legal obstacles, as in the past. To put coal ash and gypsum into production as raw materials, these products need to be commercialized, and they must be made into commodities-in accordance with standards, quality requirements, and in accordance with laws and market regulations. In order to use garbage as an alternative fuel, strict legal regulations and systems of collection at source are needed, which may require the participation of the entire local political system.
It can be said that these six issues were identified at the departmental meeting in early 2019, which is a major challenge for the development of Vietnam's cement industry in the third decade of this century, and may be an opportunity for Chinese enterprises.
